Updatr is a little tool which scans your local installed applications, contacts itunes and informs you if there is a newer version available.
 
if you run Updatr the first time, you may notice that it updates pretty slow. this is because Updatr creates a new database for your installed application and caches some information from iTunes. if thats done it should be much faster on finding version informations from itunes. feel free to play around with the number of simultaneous downloads in settings tab to boost your update speed.

All the iPhone and iPod Touch users who desperately wanna Jailbreak their phones on 3.1.3 firmware beware of the dramatically increasing fake Jailbreaking utilities for 05.12.01 baseband on the Internet. These fake Jailbreaking tools run malicious code on your computer or handset that not only affects the performance but also fills-in various viruses into it causing great horrid!
Most notable recent fake Jailbreaking utilities include Gull1hack, SpartanBr3ak and br0k3n_appl3. Gull1hack developed by an eighteen-year-old German is one messed application that boosted the possibility of jailbreaking devices running on the new 05.12.01 baseband. The iPhone-Dev Team has confirmed Gull1hack as a fake tool. Though not an harmful tool (Thanks to the developer!) once downloaded, Gull1hack disables your mouse for 30 seconds and then opens a page full of Google Ads, thus fooling around people and requesting them not to run programs without properly knowledge on the functions or producers of the applications.

Well folks, we're almost there. In the very near future, 3.1.3 and baseband 05.12.01 will be unlockable for those of us unfortunate enough to be stuck in this position. And surprisingly, its is a LOT of people. Discussed in an IRC channel, GeoHot and the DevTeam's MuscleNerd, share some thoughts on the exploits they have found, and by the looks of things, might actually team up to dish out an ultimate serving of Jailbreaking goodness.
GeoHot explains that there is an exploit that he had previously discovered and wanted to use with the release of blacksn0w, which has now found to still exist in 3.1.3. He goes on to discuss how he had originally wanted to implement this exploit in blacksn0w but opted to go with an open source route, which makes sense to keep things slightly on the downlow.
It sounds as though GeoHot and MuscleNerd (Dev Team) may possibly be working on the same exploit, and if that's the case, it would be incredibly logical for them to team up rather than releasing two different exploits, which in the end could just cause more greif when upgrading in the future.

THINGS TO KNOW- The main thing you need to know is that 3.1.3 FW is a complete waste of time. There are only 3 very minor bug fixes that were added. There are no new uber cool bad ass features or anything like that. You are only gonna hassle yourself if you waste your time upgrading. So be smart and just STAY on 3.0 or 3.1.2 FW. These files are here for LAST RESORT USE ONLY to help people who either just bought their device or people who upgraded
- These CUSTOM IPSW's are ALREADY JAILBROKEN! That's the whole point of having a Custom IPSW is because they are already Jailbroken and ready to go. DO NOT try to run redsn0w or blackra1n on these after you restore because you will screw up your device and have to start over.
- These CUSTOM IPSW's WILL NOT update your baseband! They will keep your baseband intact and leave them at whatever version they currently are.
- Currently there is NO UNLOCK solution for 3.1.3 FW PERIOD! Doesn't matter if your baseband is still at 05.11.07 or 05.12.01, currently

First and foremost I will make this VERY CLEAR RIGHT NOW.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT UPGRADE your device to 3.1.3 FW unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY need to or you are dumb and already did. 3.1.3 FW is a completely USELESS upgrade and is not worth the hassle of dealing with at this point.- If you use blacksn0w on baseband 05.11.07, you need to stay on 3.1.2 FW
- There is NO SUPPORT for iPod Touch 3G. Perfect example of how NEW STUFF isn't all better
- If you already upgraded without waiting and now your baseband is at 05.12.01 and you need to unlock your iPhone 3G or 3GS then TUFF SHIT your fucked for now. Pay the fuck attention next time!
On Tuesday, Apple released firmware 3.1.3 for the iPhone and iPod touches. No more restoring to 3.1.2 FW for 3GS & IPT3G |

Yes that's right I have just verified that Crapple is no longer signing the 3.1.2 FW for the iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 3G which means that you will NOT be able to restore your device back to 3.1.2 FW UNLESS you either have your ECID Certificates saved on Cydia or on your computer.
Even if you haven't upgraded to 3.1.3 FW this still affects you because if you try to restore your 3GS or IPT3G with 3.1.2 FW then you will receive this message.
So be sure to STAY WHERE YOU ARE and DO NOT restore your device unless you have your SHSH file saved. This does NOT affect anyone EXCEPT iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 3G users.
I will be creating an updated guide on how to restore your device if you already have your certificates saved but for now you can check out the following thread.
